Evaluation of Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) National Programs

Countries: Burkina Faso and Niger
Project Dates: December 2019 – December 2020

EVIHDAF was commissioned by UNICEF’s Regional Office for West and Central Africa (WCARO) to evaluate Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) national programs in Burkina Faso and Niger. The criteria of relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, sustainability and scaling up were applied to CMAM components and to crosscutting issues. Data were obtained from secondary sources, health system databases, and observations during visits to CMAM intervention areas. The community perspectives were analyzed through qualitative data from caretakers, community leaders, health workers, and stakeholders from the government, UNICEF, and other major technical and financial partners in the area of nutrition.

Quantitative data were analyzed to determine whether performance targets were met and qualitative data used to support the analysis. Further, building upon the evidence, we have generated lessons, good practices and recommendations for the governments, UNICEF and partners globally.
