Strengthening national capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to infectious threats across West and Central Africa.

At EVIHDAF, we strengthen national capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to infectious threats across West and Central Africa. We operationalize the 7-1-7 surveillance targets – 7 days to detect, 1 day to report, 7 days to respond by integrating high-quality data, optimized laboratory networks, and a sustainable public-health workforce so countries can lead rapid, locally owned outbreak responses.

Our work reduces the human and economic toll of outbreaks by turning donor investments into durable national systems that deliver timely action and long-term resilience.

Core services we deliver

Surveillance systems and analytics

We design interoperable, secure data platforms that integrate routine reporting, sentinel surveillance, and emergency data to produce real time dashboards and predictive insights that accelerate detection and meet the 1-day reporting benchmark

Workforce institutionalization

We map donor funded roles to national cadres, design multi year transition plans, and deliver targeted training so essential outbreak functions move onto national payrolls and remain sustainable.

Emergency response and rapid deployment

We build and mentor rapid response teams, establish SOPs for incident management, and support logistics and supply chain readiness for surge operations.

Laboratory network optimization

We support the accreditation and digitalization of reference laboratories to ensure rapid confirmation of suspected outbreaks.

One Health coordination and preparedness

We facilitate cross sector collaboration across human, animal, and environmental health; run simulation exercises; and strengthen risk communication to ensure coordinated, rapid responses to zoonotic and AMR threats.

Why this matters

  • Faster detection and response prevent escalation and saves lives.
  • Sustainable workforce and systems ensure countries retain capacity after projects end.
  • Data‑driven decision making enables targeted interventions and efficient resource use.

How we work

We partner with Ministries of Health, regional bodies, and funders to co‑design interventions that are contextually appropriate and scalable. Our teams combine epidemiology, informatics, laboratory science, social science, and policy expertise to translate evidence into operational solutions that governments can own and sustain.

Our Partners

Beyond individual experts, we work closely with Global Health Systems Solutions (GHSS), Global Health Shield (GHS), and CESMEL Health to amplify impact and ensure technical depth.

Global Health Systems Solutions (GHSS)

Partner on health system strengthening and capacity building initiatives.

Global Health Shield (GHS)

Collaborator on rapid response capacity building and emergency preparedness.

CESMEL Health

Partner on laboratory optimization and quality assurance.
